1st of all , i'm really sorry about ur dad! I'm sure he was a great man! R.I.P.
What about you? feel better now? One thing like that isn't that easy to forget , so..

Now, being ontopic , I'm going to try ur method and i'll let you know if it worked or not. Though , i'm a bit skeptical in what considers the performance u'll get out of it. I mean , i wouldn't want to see my AAO requiring like 10 seconds to open the My Computer window , or 1 minute to open the bloody winamp.
How would it perform on the standard AAO ( 1.6 Ghz Atom , 1 GB Ram , 160 GB HDD)?
Oh , and other thing , i assume it's not going to work out of the box , so in this case , are there the missing drivers available?

    soundworkspr,

I am trying to install Windows XP PRO SP2 using USB method but I am getting a message:

INF file txtsetup.sif is corrupt or missing. status 18.
Setup cannot continue. Press any key to exit.

Anyone got the same message and was able to resolve it? I have the Aspire One D250 and I am also using a 4 GB Flash Drive from Kingston if that helps.

    Thanks for any advice!!!

Alright, I was able to run from the USB Flash drive. However, when I got to the part where I had to pick the partition chooser, my only choice is the usb stick (U:). How can I get my hdd to show up? I am not even seeing the C: drive for an option to install Windows.

That is where I end up with the installation. Is there a way to make the C: drive to show up at that part of Windows installation using USB Flash drive?

To successful process you must in Win Vista/W7 run UltraIso as Adminstrator and use iso image opened by UltraIso because it will not work if you mount image by some other program.
Also first format your usb drive using full format (remove check from "quick format")

hey guys, check my thread here: viewtopic.php?f=70&t=18334

It seems that Microsoft released a little utility to make a bootable USB stick with Windows 7.

I'm curious also to see if it would work for XP.

I will try this later & post my results.

Yep, this little utility from Microsoft worked like a charm. You just point it to your Windows 7 ISO and it does the rest.

It has worked twice now - I installed 7 just desperate to get away from Vista, and then when I saw how truly awesome 7 is, I did a clean install.

I've only got a mac and a linux machine - the AA1 i want to put tiny7 onto. Normally writing ISO's and DMG's such as Ubuntu, Moblin etc to a USB works fine with either UNetBootin on my AA1, or via some terminal commands in OS X, but i can't for the life of me get tiny7 to work. Anybody got any answers?

    thanks in advance....

    Hi, Using W7 RC1 atm on my aao. AOA150ab 512mb 120gb hdd
Ok it doesn't fly but it's perfectly useable.
In fact, as useable as using Ubuntu 9.10 Desktop. Obviously the netbook remix is 'cut down' and modified for netbooks.
I have disabled and uninstalled some windows features which aren't needed and updated all my drivers.
I'm using W7 on my laptop and, now I,ve tried it on here I think W7 basic would be ideal.
I haven't upgraded my memory, still 512mb, maybe I will try to add 1gb to enhance the experience.
The only bugbear is the wireless notification light is non-functional, as it was in Ubuntu 9.10, but the activity light works.

Thanks for the guide, worked for me!

do you have to change the boot order or will it instinctively go from usb if theres nothing in the cd rom drive?

Absolutely you have to change the boot order. Computers are dumb and you have to tell them exactly what you want them to do.

actually, it depends on if you have modified the boot order in the bios or not.

Best thing is you don't even have to go into the bios to boot from USB, when the acer logo comes up on your AA1, just hit F12, and you will get a menu allowing you to select your boot device, just select your USB drive.

Thanks the Ultra ISO trick works.
    It was painless.

And I have to says that Windows 7 runs surprisingly well on the AA1. I even dare to say that it works better than some linux distributions I've tried.
I am not talking about hardware drivers (difficult to compete with microsoft on that point) but It is fast and so far I've never experienced sluggishness.
