I'm used to Linux (Ubuntu) but have only ever installed a VPN in Windows before and can't figure out what to do. I searched the Package Manager and found that it seemed to have several VPN client packages installed. But what to do next? I can't see anything that resembles a VPN client in the actual applications.
Sorry if this is a totally stupid question, I've googled it too and found nothing.

Network Manager has a VPN option. It shows support for both Cisco VPN and OpenVPN. I am not sure if that helps you because I haven't tried using the VPN on AA1. BTW Network Manager can be accessed on the lower right side on the system tray. It looks like an network icon in WindowsXP.

I hope that at least points you to right direction.

    Well i have a network-manager-vpn package installed.
But nothing shows up in the list of applications to run.
And when I run the connection manager, I don't see any options that have anything to do with VPNs...
I can add a new LAN, Wireless LAN, PPPoE but that's it.
    Any ideas?

    hi all,

Pretty much same questions again, since they weren't really answered here..

So, i want to install a VPN for same reasons as many posts i've seen here, ie University network (perhaps a sticky would be handy?)

I've looked through the package manager, and Network manager openvpn and vpnc are ticked (installed i assume) as is openvpn package. But as Diana asked, how do i run Network manager?

Ok, but there is no such icon in my system tray, so how do i run package manager? I assume once i can get this running, i'll be able to configure the VPN options..

    cheers Oz

The first issue is what sort of VPN. The VPN client stuff doesn't work with Nortel, Checkpoint and the like, I *think* it only works with Cisco and OpenVPN.

Bump! Anyone have a solution for this yet? Surely there are some linux experts out there that know how to get a simple VPN connection to work on these machines? Please
