That's the first thing I did. I uninstalled the anti-virus and went with the free AVG. AVG is free and blows away Mcafee.

google for uninstall mcafee, they probably have a proper uinstall tool. (symantec did when i used to use them) also get CCleaner, and run its registry cleanup, that will save you a bit of hassle too. its something someone on the forums suggested for me, and now its on all 7 of my windows operating systems.
to be fair thats what you should have done before posting

    norton/symantec uninstaller:
    http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/ts ... 3108162039

    Trend Micro uninstaller:
    http://esupport.trendmicro.com/support/ ... EN-1033129

    Mcafee uninstall:
    # Click on the following link to download the MCPR removal tool
    http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/MCPR.exe
    # Click Save and save the file to your desktop
    # Close all McAfee Application windows you may have open, and double-click on MCPR.exe to start the removal tool. Windows Vista users will have to right-click on the file and select "Run as Administrator"
    # After the removal tool finishes, you should be prompted to restart your computer.
    # Once the computer restarts, your McAfee product should be uninstalled.
    # If for any reason there appears a red X during the uninstall, go to the following location for more advanced uninstall instructions involving the registry.

if your going to use an av on a aao then it needs to do be 2 things, fast and good

    norton, symantec & Mcafee:
good av but it will SLOW down the compuer a lot!

AVG well its free, dont expect it to work as well as the others! from my own use iv knowen macenes to be full of viruses and yet avg can scan and say there is nothing

personly iv ended up useing NOD32 (by eset) capture rate at least as good as the big names (mcafee & symantec) but is not a resorce hog! i also like the fact it isnt in your face all the time, when it douse an update it just has a faded mesage to say its done in the corber and then it go's after a few seconds, not some stuped box that says downloading or where you need to click ok to get rid of it - samll name in soho users but its much bigger in enterprise use (http://www.eset.com) - if u got kids then push for the education discount as its 50% off if you can find it!
