This is my newest experiment of dual booting on my d150

*EDIT* sad to say that the install nver finished. I had the infinite spinning beachball lol. I've tried installing tinyxp also using Q, but it never booted. I did try to run tinyxp on a dell inspiron 5100 p4 laptop running debian using qemu. it was slow. so im assuming its going to be slower on an atom processor. i think it would be just better to dual boot instead of a VM

By the way, i tried to install Parallels on my D150 and the installer said i can't install it on my machine.

I'm trying to dual boot Xubuntu and OS X. I have used iAtkos to reformat my HD (GUID) in two partitions. It had created the following partitions: 200MB FAT (/dev/sda1), 22GB HFS+ (/dev/sda2), 5GB FAT (/dev/sda3). After installing Xubuntu the FAT partition was reformated as EXT2. I could boot into Xubuntu correctly. Then I restored my OS X partition and GRUB stopped working. I booted from an iAtkos installer and installed EFI bootloader, without success. So I booted from an OS X USB drive and installed Chameleon 2. This fixed my OS X partition, but it didn't recognize my Xubuntu partition.. I decided to reinstall Xubuntu and GRUB. I modified /boot/grub/menu.lst to include the following:
    Code:
    # OSX on /dev/sda2
    title MacOS X
root (hd0,1) # also tried rootnoverify
makeactive # I've tried with and without
    chainloader +1
Unfortunately this just gives me a blinking cursor when choosing MacOS X.. What am I doing wrong and what should I be doing to fix it? Thanks!

I ran in a problem similar to yours when i was installing debian. When i wasnt paying too much attention to the install process and partitioning, the linux install damaged my HFS+ partition. If you pop in the Installation CD and click on Disk Utility, and if you don't see your partition there, then it was a sign for me to reinstall OSX. So i had to reinstall OSX again, then Linux. Hope this helps.

    Installing OSX only

I want to keep it as simple as possible, no Linux, No Ubuntu Just OSX working on my AAO.
So, I noticed a guy in the UK who sells an 8Gb Kingston Memory stick with Ubuntu 8.10 Installer and all necessary patches to make everything work on the AAO. So I wondered if anyone who has managed to install OSX on the AAO had thought of doing the same with OSX ie cost of 8Gb Kingston Memory stick + profit for time + handling P&P to sell to non techies like me who would be prepared to pay a reasonable amout for it? Or on a DVD if it wont load from a USB stick.

um, imo i understand selling a live usb with ubuntu because you can charge for the cost of the USB drive. The software is under opensource so its free. imo however, if u start selling osx86, there should be royalties given to apple because the software is under a commercial license. i think that if you want to buy a live usb wid X on it, you might as well just buy a mac book. thats just my opinion.

Maybe if Apple surprise us by bringing out a Macbook Air with a 9 or 10" screen for around 600€ in June I might go for it, until then if I cant get MacOSX to run on the AAO I'll just have to install Ubuntu 8.10 and learn to live with it.
Which will make the AAO start up faster, maximising the memory or installing a hard drive instead of the SSD?

    Hi,

I've got 3 partitions with W7, ubuntu Jaunty netbook remix, and OSX running. The trick is in the sequence.
1 - Create the three partions
2 - Install Windows (i picked the second one)
3 - Install OSX (iatikos prob misspelt, but look in the OSX section) (i picked the third partion) Darwin will recognise the windows partition and create the boot selections.
4 - Install Jaunty from USB image (the first partition)
5 - Edit the /boot/grub/.... as listed above in this.

selecting OSX will now run the darwin boot loader

now all three run ok (OSX with wireless - although I changed the wireless card to the DELL OSX natively compatible one)

Just need to figure out what to do with them now :)

The one good feature from ubuntu is that it will automatically see all the partition volumes, so although alot of the disk is taken up with OS installs, you can still access all the files

    Paul

Should be royalties given?! Bloody hell, I almost fell oft chair! You're selling copies of someones product patched to run on unlinced hardware (breaking the EULA). If Apple found out someone was doing that they would he well within thier rights to financially bitchslap them.

I suspect that if apple wanted to make money on this, they would do it themselves.
