    Hi everyone.

I'mfairly new to the linux world, but slowly getting there.

I'm trying to install Pidgin IM client with no luck, can anyone provide some instruction on how to do this??

When I try to download the file to the yum.repos.d folder as directed, the doanload fails and I get no further.

I'm not sure exactly what's happening, but it sounds like you're trying to download the Pidgin file to the yum.repos.d folder, which isn't the right place for it. You should be able to start up a terminal , and from it type (without the quotes and followed by pressing the Enter key) "sudo yum install pidgin"

I have the same problems, and can't solve them. So my choise was kopete. Very nice ICQ client vith customizable themes. Install it with kdenetwork.
    yum list kdenetwork
    yum install kdenetwork

Removing the Acer IM's libpurple stuff allows yum to install pidgin's own. "sudo yum remove libpurple" (removes the default IM) and then "sudo yum install pidgin" worked for me.
