installing ubuntu

    hi im trying to install ubuntu to give it a try i have downloaded (karmic-netbook-remix-i386.iso) but cant understand how i install this i have read that i need to write this to pen drive but am unsure of how to do this could anyone help please.

    1. Prepare 2GB PenDrive - format it as FAT32.
    2. Plug-in your PenDrive and remember drive letter
    3. Download this software: http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/ - run this software
    4. Load ISO file to pendrive using above software.
    5. Have fun.

    i get this message Can't open file "/mnt/home/Downloads/unetbootin-linux-344":
    archive format is not recognised

    Try using sudo. I never used Linux version of this software so I do not know how exactly it works in this OS...

    Did you get this message while double clicking the file in nautilus?

    Try opening a terminal, then go the the directory where the file is the comand would probably be: cd /mnt/home/Downloads/
    Then run the application by typing: ./unetbootin-linux-344

    If this doesn't work try to make the file executable by executing: chmod +x unetbootin-linux-344
    The run ./unetbootin-linux-344 again.

    You should be prompted for your password but in case that doesn't happen then you can use sudo as suggested: sudo ./unetbootin-linux-344
