Please can anyone help me. I have installed Ubuntu 8.1 on my aspire one. But now the wireless connection will not work.

I have download the drivers from this site... http://snapshots.madwifi-project.org/madwifi-dfs/ (the 16 jan 09 file).

But I am a complete newbie/idiot and do not know what to do with them or where to put them.

Can anyone give help me in a step by step fashion.

    Otherwise XP beckons!!

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi wazza

You do not say which version of the Aspire you have.

It may help you to look at the following link as there are How To guides there about putting Ubuntu on the Aspire.

    https://help.ubuntu.com/community/AspireOne

As you can see from my signature I have it booting from a USB stick and the wireless works, though the signal strength is not as good as the normal Aspire set up. Typically when I am right on top of my router, aspire 100%, Ubuntu 95%. If I am 2 rooms away Aspire 100% Ubuntu 75%.

If you are looking for a more Windows type of desktop you should look at; viewtopic.php?f=39&t=4310

    Best wishes.
