    Hi guys,

I have seen various tutorials on installing xp to a USB drive, but I only have a SD card - how would I install Windows XP to a 16Gb SD Card?

    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
I registered just to answer your query, so hope it helps: I've read on the Acer website's Acer One homepage somewhere that the maximum sized SD card that its system can recognise is 8GB. So I think you may be unlucky if you try to use a 16GB card, and may need to invest in a usb drive if you are trying to install something too big for an 8GB card. Please forgive me if the 8GB card limitation I learned of is in error or has been overcome elsewhere on these or other forums.

That's outdated information... AA1 supports up to 32GB SDHC...

I'd like to install a bootable copy of XP and my apps to an 8 or 16GB SD card. My goal is to boot off the SD card and free-up space on the HD. Is this possible? Thanks in advance.

AFAIK WinXP is not going to install OS to removable devices such a USB PenDrives and SD cards - correct me if I'm wrong. Also there is no boot option from SD in AA1...

Thanks for confirming that, I was starting to get that opinion. Is there any advantage to using th SD card for the Windows Swap file?

Hard to say. I use HDD version so my swap is on hard drive... Main reason why people are using SD as swap area is belief that they can save SSD from continuous writes to it. For me it's a bit silly as SSD will last for much longer then AA1 it self... :)

I've found a few sites that claim that you can boot XP from the SD memory card. Here's one of them:

    http://www.ngine.de/article/id/8

I was running eBoostr in DEMO mode and decided to delete it. During the removal process, I was asked if I wanted to leave a comment to the developers as to why I didn't purchase the product. I replied that I thought the price was too high. After I sent off my comments, I was given the opportunity to buy it if I'd sign-up for one of a number of different offers. I selected to take a survey from ZoomPanel, and after taking the survey I was emailed directions on how to download eBoostr. The software downloaded fine and seems to be giving a small boost to application launch and quit times.

re: eBoostr: I was offered the software FOR FREE if I'd sign-up for one item (ZoomPanel being my choice). Anyway, it is a reasonably painless way to get a nice memory utility program.

It should be possible to boot XP from Sd as I have done it with ubuntu. All you need is a cheap 99p card reader it then appears as a usb drive.
