ten tweaks for acer one etc...
instructions do not work. When followed they result in:
[user@localhost ~]$ sudo yum install vlc
    fedora 100% |=========================| 2.1 kB 00:00
    updates 100% |=========================| 2.6 kB 00:00
    Setting up Install Process
    Parsing package install arguments
    No package vlc available.
    Nothing to do
    [user@localhost ~]$

Why within the instructions does it say sudo yum install vlc when the image above it says sudo yum install nano?
The problem with people making half assed efforts to put together instructions is that they don't know what they are talking about.
    The instructions do not work.

    Hi,

Because that is what you have to do.

Not sure where you found the instructions, but this worked fine for me just be careful about any type O `s

First you must add the repository's ;) and then install it via yum.

    Sudo rpm -Uvh http://download1.rpmfusion.org/free/fed ... noarch.rpm

    sudo rpm -Uvh http://rpms.Kwizart.net/Kwizart-release-8.rpm

    Sudo yum install –enablerepo=Kwizart-testing vlc vlc-core mozilla.vlc
    That`s it done. :D

But if you are using FF 3 then an additional step will be needed to get the browser plug in working.
    Sudo In -fs /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/libvlcplugin.so/opt/firefox/plugins

Then you will need another one to put it on the original Acer desktop if you are still using it.

    Sudo sed s/%U// -i/usr/share/applications/livna-vlc.desktop
    dca add 12 “file=`/usr/share/applications/livna-vlc.desktop

Obviously a reboot will be needed for these changes to take effect :)

those directions are not the ones referred to in the article www.reghardware.co.uk/2008/09/05/ten_aspire_one_tips/
says to go to the VLC website at www.videolan.org/vlc/download-fedora.html and somehow figure out to use the livna repository. As y et, no one has told me how to even get to the folder where the downloads are via terminal but its expected that everyone is suppose to know how without even finding out how to. Doesn't even say which version of fedora stuff to use... something about directions in a rpm file. then type sudo install vlc. So obviously it says to use a fedora version not the one fusion you suggest. Why?
Linux is such a pain in the butt. I already hate it!

    Aspiration,

There is an easier way to install VLC, go to this website

    http://www.acer.com/aspireone/support/files/fun.html

VLC is right there, you follow the directions (a couple of easy steps) and never even have to go into terminal.

Worked like a champ for me.

    Hi,

I have just tried the first link and downloaded the stable.noarch.rpm fine.

Downloads folder is simple, minimise the terminal window you are in then just open the Downloads folder, :?

but I am not sure why you want to do this as Linux does everything for you, looks for and installs any available package, you do not have to hunt for anything once you are in terminal. Personally and I have only had this Acer since OCT I find Linux much easier and safer regarding software instalations.

As you know Linpus is fedora based so any application you want to run will need to be 7/8/9 defiantly not 10.

the acer aspire site will not install a fully working vlc. the codecs seem to be missing from the package so vlc wouldn't even play the avi file that mplayer can run. Sucks! During installation there is a notice... something about copyrights etc. So the acer site won't do a proper install so I uninstalled it.

    OK. Didn't know that.
I believe only the fedora 10 version of printer driver is available. Ratz!
