Hi fellow AA1 users, Newbe johnkat's 1st post,

I happened to google "insydh2o" only to discover that it isn't a normal bios, it's an EFI firmware.

InsydeH2O is a product family from Insyde Software
Unlike traditional 16-bit real mode BIOS technology, InsydeH2O BIOS Replacement Drivers runs in 32-bit flat mode. Yet, despite the modern software technologies Insyde H2O Compatibility Support Module still provides all the necessary backwards compatibility including the run-time BIOS interface, support for option ROMs, and USB legacy features.
InsydeH2O is a fully WHQL-compliant firmware solution that employs a true modular architecture, is written in C code, and uses a driver model that enables a wide range of software engineers to be quickly productive.

I seem to remember that the main problem with OSX running on a PC is that the BIOS has to be translated in to looking like EFI firmware. so that the OSX install thinks it's running on a Intel Apple platform.

So it seems that the AA1 running the various OSX86 Hacks, is actually booting natively with EFI pretending to be a standard BIOS, then the various EFI fixs/patchs attempt to make OSX think that it's running an EFI instead of a BIOS.

    Mac OS X on Intel
On January 10, 2006, Apple released Mac OS X 10.4.4 with the first generation of Intel-based Macs, the iMac and the MacBook Pro. These machines used Extensible Firmware Interface (EFI) platform firmware instead of the legacy BIOS found on most x86 motherboards. On February 14, 2006 an initial "hack" of Mac OS X v10.4.4 was released on the Internet by a programmer. [5] Within hours Apple released the 10.4.5 update

I'm wondering if we don't have the first PC platform that could run OSX the way it's meant run on a Mac?

Does anyone know more about ?

    cheers jk

EFI Flashing? I am not a programer, however, Apple update the EFI firmware for various Macs. Would it be plausible to create a Custom AAO Firmware? If I understand correctly allot of the issues we are having are related to BIOS implementation issues. I also know the other set of issues are hardware specific driver issues. I also understand the time needed to program and debug code for programming. This would be a major undertaking. So in the end would it be worth it to a hight level programmer to spend time creating a Custom EFI for the AAO?

Although the idea in principal is possible, we would have problems creating the firmware as there are currently no tools for editing the bios like there is for Award or Phoenix, if someone can get hold of the tools then anything is possible.

Talk about revisiting an old thread...
I managed to find a few Insyde decompress tools, via the awesome archive.org and a couple of hours following dead ends and vague leads.

InsyDeco will let you decompress Insyde bios revisions. I've uploaded a local copy so everyone benefits (as well as a mirror on my host)

InsyDeco comes in two flavours, a .zip is a windows binary application, and .tar is a linux source tool
    Attached File(s)
    Attached File insydeco.0.1.zip ( 45.67K ) Number of downloads: 130
    Attached File insydeco.0.1.tar.tar ( 9.24K ) Number of downloads: 44
