Does this card work with Linpus?
Where can I get drivers from?

It seems possible to buy this card from Hong Kong for £11.49, via e-bay.

Assuming I make up a mounting post to suit the shorter card, presumably this should work in an Aspire One 150?

Intel 5300 Wireless card purchased off Ebuyer & installed with additional antenna mounted in screen case.

Just changing the wifi card is quite easy & could probably be done in 20 minutes if you don't bother with the third antenna in the screen.

Currently seems to be receiving FEWER signals than the Atheros card. :(

    On installation:
1 Was not recognised by Linpus.
2 Was recognised by Moblin & Ubuntu Netbook Remix, running off USB sticks.

Ubuntu had not recognised the Atheros card, but as now this works with the Intel Wireless card, I have installed Ubuntu as the main OS. That should be an improvement.

A slight bump. I'm not sure about Linpus drivers. The hardware is compatable.

I am using the Intel5300 in a D150. If you have the A150, It should still work, the internal chipsets are the same.

I did go with three antenas though.

    SUCCESS: Intel 5300 Wireless Card

I too replaced the atheros card with a Intel 5300 (recommended by "ashram" thank you) Here are the before and after results with the Acer sitting in the same spot on kitchen table.

Receive signal strength was -53 now -42

download speed was 2900k now 5100k
upload speed was 1050k now 1900k

I'm very pleased with it so far. Cost about US $35 from Amazon. I also added a third antenna for the "N" service but haven't tried that mode yet.

    Note:
Signal strength determined by using inSSIDer program. http://www.metageek.net/support/downloads

On line speed determined by using web site http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/

    Gig,

I bought it off E-bay, cost + shipping = $6.95 US. There are some cheaper listed from HK, but that usually takes 2-4 weeks, fine if you are not in a hurry. This seller is in California and I received it in 3 days to Michigan by regular US mail. Shop accordingly for your location.

    Dee,

Here is the information that came with my 5300.

Your 5300 card should be arriving soon. Here are some tips you may find
    handy.

    Installing the card:
    1) In most laptops it's easy - only requires installing the card in the
computer's PCI-e slot, connecting the antenna leads, and fastening one
or two screws, depending on your model.
    2) The PCI-e slot may be inside an access door on the underside of your
laptop or it may even be under the keyboard. Visit your computer
manufacturer's website for specific details on where your WiFi card goes
and how to access the slot.
    3) The mini-card has a small square aluminum vented cover over the most
critical chips on the card. Make sure this part of the card is facing up
when you slide the card into its slot. It's likely covered with a label
and is on the same side of the card as the three antenna connectors.
    4) The Intel 5300 card will support both two and three antenna wire
designs. The connectors on the top edge of the card are in this order:
1-3-2. If your laptop only has two antenna leads, connect them to the #1
and #2 connectors. Many of today's laptops may come with a two-connector
card, but actually have a third unused antenna built in. It will pay to
snoop around inside the case a bit to see if you can find the third
    antenna's lead.
    5) If you want to achieve true 450Mbps, you will need a third antenna.
If there is no third antenna built into your laptop, you can buy a
third-party antenna. These have a standard WiFi antenna connector called
a "U.fl."connector. Make sure to get one rated at 5.0 GHz for the #3
position, because the card needs this to utilize this part of the
spectrum. (I do sell these on Amazon, too. Just visit my Amazon store.)

Where does the wifi mini pcie card live in the Aspire one? There is one bay in the bottom, but it is empty now, and there aren't any connectors. I have a spare Intel 5300 half-hight so I thought i'd put it in the One. Is there a howto with pictures somewhere on the forum?

In AA1 it is inside netbook, right hand side, just under arm rest part of keyboard area - to the right from touch pad... You need to open netbook to see it.

Thank you, I have also found the howto. My 5300 is a half-hight, and I can see that won't fit. I'm swapping it for a 4965.
