Yes you can, but last I checked the output of those cameras are raw high speed video. If you are into FPGA programming, there should be the source code on opencores to package the video stream into the USB port. Sparkfun has the details on how to do this.

    Fun, fun, fun project!

Easiest way is to adopt Asusu EeePC 1.3Mpix camera which is already prepared on PCB in right shape, there is USB connector etc. But it's your choice to play with completely different type of unit... Have fun then - it probably will be more, more expensive to adopt mobile phone camera but will give you lot of fun... ;)

    but, its 1.3mp still picture
old phones could not take video at 1.3mp
even very few new phones can I guess
so 0.3 mp video that we have now is probably what youll get after all your coding

Yes. But this is for data transmission in mobile phones. Better picture = more data send = more money spend... In case of PC there is no problem as you can use LAN or Wi-Fi - choice is yours but sometimes it is reasonable to have better webcam for such use... :)

fair enough, I was just saying is it possible before he wastes his time coding for it. what im trying to say is in essence can an 8mp digital camera take 8mp per frame video at 30fps?
but congrats on post 500 anyway.. no idea where you find the threads to post in..
    but lol
