Internet Explorer 8 - Search Provider problem

    Dear Colleagues

    I have tried to add my own search provider following the directions given on the google box "Manage Search Providers" option and was given the following message "Unable to add search provider. The Create Your Own tool requires Internet Explorer. [438]"
    How do I fix this please? Is there another way to add search providers and change the default search engine?

    Slightly irritating because my trusty old Acer Travelmate does it without problem.
