Ah right - Disabling the driver seems to have done the trick - it's a bit slow to pick up wireless networks seems to take ten minutes to get going...

    but anyway vielen dank ;)

    What do you call everything?
-sound, wifi, card readers (no card on boot, SD-MS-..), ...
-Did you alter something yourself from base intrepid install?
    -Do you use the ume-launcher?

I tried it about 2 weeks ago, but I guess I choose the wrong moment to check out intrepid (with ume-launcher)

This is a question I have also asked several times. Everything never really means everything, but I think I have got as far as anyone and my "everything" is everything except suspend/hibernate and the wifi light and kill switch. Sound capture in Skype is choppy but does work. All networking is fine as are card readers.

I installed alpha 5 and just kept updating. This is evolving very fast and I have been updating at least twice a day for the last two weeks. I tried to update for the first time today about ten minutes ago and for the first time in a fortnight, there were no updates.

I have had to blacklist pci_ath and add "pciehp pciehp_force=1" to /etc/modules and enable the pulse audio drivers. Otherwise all the changes I have made are just normal configuration changes.

I started running Intrepid on a USB stick but last week I installed on the SSD and have experience no real problems. Suspend would be good but is certainly not a showstopper for me.

    Sound situation for me:
If I add the following to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base (can't remember the reference):
    Code:
    options snd-hda-intel model=acer
I have sound output and input after suspend/resume. But the headphones are not recognized, meaning when I plug headphones in the speakers still output sound. In addition, sound only comes out of the left channel of the headphones.

If I don't add anything to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base the headphones are working as they should. But after suspend/resume I don't get any sound output at all.

Has anyone come further than this?

Shucks even Fedora's Rawhide isn't killing the wireless.
(I'm not being smug, I'm running both, as well as the Mepis Beta, which works beautifully).
What I *did* find--and I have no idea why--is that with Intrepid, an update seemingly killed the wireless. However, after three reboots (and doing nothing else) Lo! and Behold! it was back. <shrug>.
I wonder if ath_pci somehow got unblacklisted during an update and if that's what caused the problem? Hrrm, doesn't make sense as I type it. I really have no idea why the reboots, with no further updates, fixed it, but thanks to your post, I know I'm not updating it today. :)

    Solution is:
    Code:
    apt-get install linux-backports-modules-intrepid-generic
And reboot. Or to get it going right away:
    Code:
    sudo modprobe ath5k
They helpfully took the ath5k driver out of the most recent kernel upgrade (and intend to keep it out for the release) because of stability issues. Their advice is, use madwifi, or if ath5k is working for you (it is for me on the aa1), use the above.

Was a bit of an ambush though.

Is there anyway to get a CPU temperature monitor to work?
I have tried sensors, with sensors-detect.. but I don't think the Atom processor is supported by the
    current build of lm-sensorss.
    Thanks

No there isn't any way until the bios includes acpi support for that, which it currently doesn't. That's why we had to do the acerfand stuff. :)

I do have a two line script called temptop:

    Code:
    #!/bin/bash
    watch -n 2 'echo Temp: $[$(acer_ec.pl ?= 58 | cut -f 3 -d" ")] C'

You also need to do this, if you haven't already:

    Code:
    sudo ln -sfn /bin/bash /bin/sh

Because by default, Ubuntu makes /bin/sh a symlink to /bin/dash, and bash is needed to correctly display the temperature in decimal.

    then:

    Code:
    sudo mv temptop /usr/local/bin/
    sudo chmod a+x /usr/local/bin/temptop
    sudo temptop

Yes, you need to download and install that too, in the same way. The link and the instruction should have been in the aspire one howto...

Ok great. Temptop works now. I didn't have the acerfan thing going because quite frankly the fan never bothered me.

Anyway, on a different topic. I did above to get my wireless working again after the update that took out the driver from the kernel today.
My wireless works terrible! It works for a few minutes, and then suddenly it will just stop working.
Anyone else having wireless problems after the update and the above solution??

To elucidate: There's a long-term problem I've had where transferring a large file over the wifi connection - in particular when that wifi connection is the bottleneck, so it's being flooded - I get the behaviour you're describing. That's not new to this update. In fact, I haven't encountered it for a while, but that may be because it got fixed or it may be because I've modified my usage patterns and expectations around it. (Pre-emptively connecting to the wired net before doing such a transfer, for instance.) I've seen the problem occur on both the ath_pci (madwifi) driver on hardy and on the ath5k driver on intrepid, so I suspect it's not a driver issue but a hardware issue. Except, as I say, I haven't seen it happen for a while...

So, are you trying to download or upload something big right now? Or copy something big across from another machine?
