I'm wanting to replace the Intel Atom with something possibly faster but not sure if this is possible, or if there is a certain type I have to buy. A friend of mine who knows how to replace processors in laptops said he could do it for me if I bought it. Any suggestions?

Atom chips in netbooks are not socketed like traditional processors. It is mounted on the surface of the motherboard and is not removable.

While technically possible to replace the chips, 99% of people won't have the proper equipment or skill to do such a task. Not to mention you can't just buy a new chip, it needs to be pulled from another motherboard. AND after all of this, who know if the board/bios would support it. Its much cheaper to sell your netbook and get a new one with an N280 (which is a marginally better chip).
