Putting an extra .5 GB in my 8.9" Acer that has a 160GB hard drive and 1GB in it already?
If it is, what are the noticable differences? thx

If you only use it to browse the web, play movie, play music and doing light photo/video processing, office productivity softwares, adding 500MB more ram won't make a difference.

By adding .5 gb memory, when you will copy and paste the content then it will not take more time than before. So, you save time and time is very important.:)

Depends on what operating system and how its compiled to use the memory. Many systems can run great with just 64MB of memory while others struggle with 1GB.

Personally, I'd just leave it as it is.

XP runs fine with the 1 GB.
