Not sure if this should go in "Graphics", "Chipset" or "Expansion + Ports", so I'm putting it in "General".

I have one of the original Acer Aspire One netbooks (ZG5). I installed Mepis Linux 8.0 on it (a Debian derivative). It has the Intel 945 chipset which I believe supports TV-out in the hardware by re-assigning the RGB signal lines in the external VGA connector to become TV signal lines (one is composite, and the other two make an s-video pair).

I am using one of those cheap VGA to TV/S-video adaptors (similar to this one http://www.amazon.com/EFORCITY-VGA-...7?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1247546102&sr=8-7). I have had no luck with the composite (RCA) socket, but some flickerings with the s-video socket.

When I issue 'xrandr' in Linux I get a report that there is a TV device (the others are VGA and LVDS), but the report indicates that the TV is disconnected, even though it's plugged in, switched on, and was present at boot.

I have searched this message board for anything related to this issue, but there is nothing.

I wonder, does the Aspire One graphics chipset actually support TV-out? If so, is the connection made available via the external VGA socket? If so, has anyone got it working? If so, how?

Thanks in advance for any relevant information.

Never got mine working but don't you need an earth/ground signal as well as composite ?

Composite video usually uses an RCA socket, which has a signal connection and a ground connection.

So are you saying it's possible, but you never got it working? Or just that you never got it working?

    Anyone?
