Hi every one. I have read all the TS guides/info on this site as well as other sites but still need a little more info.

I purchased a TS modue (non-Fido version) and started the install yesterday. Got everything disassembled and mounted the TS on the LCD, mounted the controller board, routed the wires. Before I put everything back together, I wanted to do a test.

    Issues:
    1. USB input from the webcam (left side of LCD), It has 5 wires as shown (one looped):

I believe that ground is looped.

    2. USB input extension is too short. Yes they sent me one that is waaaay short so I soldered about 3" to the wire. Issue I am having now is that there is only 4 wires on the extension

When I did the test, Vista recognized the controller but could not install properly. It kept installing it as Unknown device. So I thought I might have screwed up the soldering. Redid the job and it was still doing the same thing. Did the uninstall/reinstall trick and still nothing. So what I tried was to plug the original USB input from the webcam directly on the TS controller board. VOILA! We have lift off.

I contacted the seller and he said that he can send me the 5 wire plugs for $10 (shipping). Now, since I have a perfectly good plug and a bunch of wires sitting around, is there any place where I can get the metal pins that go into the usb plug myself and wire the 5th wire?

What's the webcam connector used for?
I can't seem to relate the usb input the the "webcam port". I mean there are tonnes of usb ports left on the motheboard ready to solder your device to, but you chose to put the touchscreen controler's usb input to the webcam's usb input making it unusable.

Sorry, the first picture is the USB from the MB to the webcam that I'm suppose to plug into picture 2 which goes to the controller board. In turn connects to the T/S and a longer extension that connect back to the web cam.

USB from MB -> Wire (pic 1) -> Controller board -> T/S and Webcam

As you can see, the connection for the MB's usb is only 4 wires but the USB from the MB is 5 wire. My soldering skills is not quite as good as to solder a wire that thin to the controller board. So is there anyplace where I can get that metal piece that slides into the hole of the USB plug? It looks like a miniturized version of regular PC fan headers where I can insert something small and out it comes.

A lot of usb connectors have a second ground pin where the cable shielding is attached. Since none of the cabling in your pictures are shielded you can just leave it disconnected.

If the two grounds are looped together at the first connector, then the ground wire in that hardness carries the grounds from both those pins.

i had the exact same problem just now trying to install a new touchscreen that my ex gf brought back from Hong kong ($58 total). The USB input cable was definitely not for the aspire one. However, luckly that my ex wanted to free up her usb port (used for her touch screen since it was way to hard to wire it to the pci-e when i first installed the touchscreen) and she bought an extra usbhub/controller card, and that came with cables. So i linked the two USB input cable together to make it longer =P. and that solved my problem.

Also, the cable could have been a lot thiner and that would have made my life a lot easier installing this thing.
