I can't get java to load on my Windows machine. It will not download the Java installer, I'm assuming. But we know what it means to assume.

Can you describe exactly what's happening?

The easiest way to get Java is usually to go to java.com and click the "Do I have Java" link; that'll check and (assuming you don't already have a JRE installed) take you to a simple download and install link.

    Thanks for the reply.

Well, I click on the free download from the website. It downloads (I save to desktop). I double click the icon w/ the file I just DLed. The window pops up to RUN. I click RUN. The next box pops up (DLing Java installer) and it never does anything else. It just times out or shows it will take 5 or so hours! I'm on cable internet....it shouldn't take that long!

That sounds to me as if their server (the one that delivers the JRE file) may be down.

Here's an alternative: Go directly to the Sun download page at http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/?intcmp=1281 and click the download button next to "Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 11" (the first item in the list). Select the platform ("Windows", assuming you're running an XP Aspire) and check the box to agree to terms, click Continue. Now click the link under "Windows Offline Installation" (it should say "jre-6u11-windows-i586-p.exe") and that'll get you the JRE installer. Run that and you're done.
