alright- i started with the aao 16gb ssd, 1gb ram. i purchased a zif-cf adapter, a sandisk 300x 4gb cf card, and an 8 pack of flipped zif cables (bc nobody sells just one) i followed the removable cf trick posted in this forum, but also read a few others attempts. everything is installed ok. when i hit f2 for setup, the sandisk card was not listed as a hdd, it said none.. however when i hit f12 to change boot order, it was listed @ ide0. i kinda found that odd, but i keep going. i plug in my usb dvdr (that i have used previous to this to restore from rescue disk my aao before my hardware mod) and i let it boot to the blank cf card- just to allow the dvd drive to register- i hit ctrl-alt-del to reboot, hit f12 to change boot order to boot from cd/dvd drive (and yes, the sandisk card is listed in ide01), then hit enter. in the drive, i have my newest backup dvd install for vista. the screen goes completely blank, as if not even on- then stays there. the green light on the power button is on- i leave it sit for 5-10 minutes and still nothing. i tried ctrl-alt-del again and there is no response, so i push & hold the power button. without unplugging anything, i pressed power again- and still nothing. next i pulled the battery, took apart the entire computer- and took out the button battery on the motherboard. i let it sit for almost 10minutes, put it in, then test again with no luck. i even tested my oem disk, and the acer recovery disk, and nothing seems to work. i've taken out the button cell again and im letting it sit overnight just in case it needs more time to power-cycle or something.

if anyone can help that would be rather awesome. this was my early xmas gift to myself and it's been in varying stages of disassembly since 2wks ago. i am not a noob when it comes to computers, and i cannot think of anything else to try. i am willing to do just about anything. thanks in advance to any ideas that don't include thanking myself for a $350 paperweight

fyi: before ordering the flipped cables, i tried to mod my oem cable and snapped a few traces, so i can't even revert to my original ssd at the moment.

yah- sorry about that mess of text.

so when the battery is connected, both the battery light and the power light come on for a second or so, then go back off. i tried booting with nothing plugged in to the zif cable and same result. green light and fan come on.. nothing else. also, nothing else was connected- no mouse(pad), kb, wifi card was out.. it was just the motherboard plugged into the video connection, and the battery plugged into the motherboard.

    *PROBLEM SOLVED*

    I loaded the bios recovery from Macles site ( http://macles.blogspot.com/2008/08/acer ... overy.html ) onto a 4gb thumb drive
followed all directions, and vwalla! worked like a charm. for some reason, even tho my CF card (sandisk extreme IV 4gb) does not show up in the bios menu as hd, various other cards did. however, when you press f12 it shows up as IDE0 in the boot order menu. I installed ubuntu eee from a keychain just to test and it works just fine. it loads much faster than it loaded on my friends eee, too. he was kinda pissed about it. now im gonna format and install vista.
