My sons keyboard on his Acer Aspire One is acting freaky. Some keys don't work at all. Some keys will put the letter and a symbol when pressed once. Some keys are just fine. Any ideas of what is wrong or suggestions of how to fix this?

Either the keyboard is bad or the ribbon cable has become dislodged from the motherboard. Did your son spill a liquid on the keyboard? This is the most likely cause of your problem. You don't mention the model you have. However, replacement keyboards are readily available on eBay. Depending on your model, you can do a minor disassemble to get at the keyboard and try and re-seat the ribbon cable. Suggest you "Google" to learn how to disassemble your netbook. Most models have U Tube videos online showing how it is done. If re-seating the cable doesn't work, I'd suggest you need a new keybaord.

If you can, connect a usb keyboard and see if the problem continues. this will verify if its a hardware problem with the built on keyboard or software problem (OS or Virus)
If the problem continues with the usb keyboard then do a full virus scan with a good and updated antivirus (bitdefender is recommended) if that doesn't fix the problem then you may need to do a OS repair or a fresh install

if the problem is solved by the usb keyboard then its a hardware problem. most likely the strip that connects the keyboard to the motherboard is out of place or the keyboard itself is bad. first try opening the laptop and make sure the keyboard is connected properly. if that doesn't work then you need to replace the keyboard
