My AAO died a couple of weeks ago. I called Acer support and they recommended taking it to Best Buy for warranty service, where I was quoted a 14-21 day turnaround. Not acceptable. I then noticed the Acer support number I had called had an area code (254) that indicated that their location wasn't too far away. I called them up and sure enough, they are in Temple, Texas, just an hour or so North from me. My wife dropped it off last Tuesday morning directly at their facility, and the next evening FedEx was ringing my doorbell with my repaired AAO. I was expecting a week or so, not ONE DAY SERVICE.

The problem was one that I see a lot of others have had--the unit powers on, screen stays black, fan spins and there was a bit of hard drive noise, but the unit wouldn't POST. The repair ticket says they updated the BIOS. I'd seen the posts here describing how to fix it, but I didn't want to chance blowing up my warranty.

Anyway, I'm thrilled with the service I received. As a bonus, they didn't even wipe my hard drive. I keep the entire thing encrypted with TrueCrypt so I figured there was a good chance that they'd return it to factory spec as part of the fix. I have everything backed up, of course, but it would have been pain to reconfigure everything.

Sweet! I live in Austin and of course hope to not need this service. Good to know it's so close in case I do.

I am expecting delivery of a blue 160GB AAO today, according to UPS it arrived in Austin early this AM. I got it through Amazon, but it was delivered by J&R Music and Computer World out of NY. I've ordered from them before with no issues, but I do read various posts at Amazon about quality issues on AAO new units so I'm hoping I get a good one. Worst case I drive up to Temple...
