Lan prob. not connecting from ethernet

i have a problem with my lan... I put in the ethernet connection for my broadband and my laptop doesnt connect to the internet. I tried putting in all the various addresses( subnet mask, default gateway etc) as they appear for the dhcp in my pc, and 'connection established' message appears. but when i open the browser nothing happens.So i cant get on the internet. can anyone help? thanks
