Can these things be laser engraved? I did a search for laptop etching in google, but I come up with mostly mac laptops which have a metal casing. Since these things are plastic, can they be etched? And if so, any idea if it would look decent? Since it's possible to order lids for these things for cheap ( I think I've seen them listed for 18 bucks ), I'm tempted to pick one up to customize it. Figured I'd ask before spending the cash, though.

Awesome! I might have to pick up another lid and get something engraved on it then. Now I just have to figure out what I want on it. Thanks for letting me know!

I wish. As soon as I get some spare cash, I'm planning on getting it done. Tuition is coming up, though, and then Christmas, so it won't be for a while :|

Etching works on the Smooth surface.
As long as you get the right chemicals that dont eat too much plastic and jsut take of the clear coat.

Engraving depending the too a jack hamer like Engraver dont work.
rotary Dremel like engraving works perfect.

AND OFCOURSE A STEADY HAND !!!

I just got an AOA150 8.9", and engraved the lid yesterday. It took an hour in the engraver, so I would expect the engraver to charge $60 up for a full lid job.

It's only etched down about .002" deep, so it can be sanded off when I get tired of it, and want to do something else.
This is the picture right after taking it out of the laser, but it needs to be cleaned with Alcohol and water first to get the dust off.
