Can someone please tell me what the 2nd LED (with a symbol that looks like a book) from the left at top of the display means?
Sometimes when I switch the nebook on it takes quite a time, a couple of minutes, to boot and the symbol mentioned above either flashes or is on permanently until the desktop appears.

Oddly enough, this is the kinda stuff that's addressed right there in the User's Guide. Your AA1 came with a User's Guide, did it not?

Lookit that, right there on page 3 of the US English guide.

    Function: HDD
Description: Indicates when the hard disk drive is active.

Who'da thunk it? Referring to the actual documentation for an electronic device? What an archaic concept when there's an entire internet full of people who'll do your research for you and help those who seem unwilling to help themselves.

No particular malice meant towards the original poster, but c'mon folks. Read your documentation. While maybe not a wealth, there is enough info in there to answer many of your basic questions.

Thanks very much for your reply, unfortunately page 3 of my manual refers only to Fun and Files aspects of the desktop environment but that manual was issued in England and is pretty poor, to say the least. I have read my manual several times, backwards and forwands, upside down and the right way up but without success and have also spent several hours researching on the internet without anry result which is why I asked the question on this forum.
I had hoped for friendly advice but it was obviously not to be!
