Since my AAO was resurected from the black screen of death, thanks to macles bios overhaul tips, I have to press the on/off button to shut it down.
On restarting it needs to FSCHK because / wasn't cleanly unmouted.

I also run Mint Linux 4 from a USB 8 GB stick, and it shuts off nicely, so I do not think the Linpus problem is bios related.

Will it shutdown using the following command?

    sudo shutdown -h now

    Cheers.

Neither with : reboot, halt, or shutdown -r now...

    I'm getting this err msg:

i haven't look through all the scripts to see how this is actually done, but xfce4-session-logout is created within /usr/bin on each boot. It's actually picked up from a hidden file in /usr/bin called .xfce4-session-logout :)

So you can try just copying from the dot and see whether that fixes things:

    cd /usr/bin
    sudo cp .xfce4-session-logout xfce4-session-logout

    Cheers.

    It didn't work out. :(

Here's a copy of the file via Kate editor:

(I've purged all the cabalistic stuff, it would not post).

    I'm a bit lost. ;)

I was hoping for your sake that the fix would be easy enough. It looks like some file(s) have gotten corrupted. Looking at this error message:
The fact that it can't find modprobe is strange. And shutdown itself is in /sbin/shutdown NOT /sbin//shutdown. Line 8, btw in that file is:

    Code:
    modprobe fastoffdrv
So it loads that kernel module with that line. But can't if it can't find modprobe which is located in /sbin there looks to be file corruption. What do you see when you look in /sbin ?

In reference to SHMConfig, that is found in your /etc/X11/xorg.conf file:

    Code:
    cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf | grep SHMConfig

and on my system is set to "on".

Sorry, but I'm not being much help here. You might be at the point where you have to re-install the o/s from the recovery dvd.

    Cheers.

Re installing is quite annoying, I'll do it if it is the last resort solution, by the way, the system reboots normally, if I use restart instead of halt.
It's too bad the OS doesn't live up to the hardware on this AAO, I'll try the latest Mint XFCE 5 CE, as ver 4 works really nice except for wifi & sound, and those problems can be solved with the latest kernel and those mods:

Thanx for the effort, I'll keep you guys posted.
