Hi I'm completely new to the Linux scene i only got my aspire one yesterday with linpus light on. I have "unlocked" right click on the desktop using info i found on the web so that i can access the add/remove programs application. but when i try and open this it comes up with an annoying message saying "unable to retrieve software information". i have changed the root password like ive seen some people suggest for this problem but it made no difference. any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

this may be due to the fact that the fedora 8 repo's have been moved to the archives as it has reached end of life, i would email acer and ask them what they intend to do about it as they are hanging their aspire one linux customers out to dry with an out of date distro that will receive no more security updates, or any new programs. you can also edit your repo source files to point them to the new address or you can install a newer distro, like fedora10 xfce :)
