I think I tested too much my aspire one, it's time to come back to the original OS.
So I put the recovery DVD into my desktop PC and created a USB pendrive.
From the One bios I set the USB HDD: USB Flash Memory as first device in the boot priority order.
When it tries to boot from the pendrive all I can see are some BB BB BB covering half of the screen, and then the system starts up as usual.
Why this happens? :| It's supposed to start the linpus installer loaded from the pendrive...

    Hi,

A User from a german aspire one forum has had same issue with Recovery through USB stick:
    System defekt

    He got 99 displayed.
His solution was to use another USB stick which is better quality and newer (more expensive).

Just try a bunch of different usb sticks and one of them will work. It certainly isn't the size of the stick, I reinstalled the Linpus OS using my lenovo 1GB and it instantly worked.

Same problem: 1 GB pen disk doesn't work (BB error).
Tomorrow I'll try with a 2 GB one.

    Thanks

Wouldn't an external hard drive work better?

I don't know if it's really works. You must Format entire partition of Hard disk .
I try with 1gb don't work. Tonight i try with a 4gb usb and it works fine.

    Hi,
I first tried with a SD Card 2.0 GB but don't work. I tried with a 2 GB pen and work well.

When I had to reinstall, I used the DVD directly with an external DVD reader; the laptop will boot off an external DVD drive just fine, and the recovery disk is bootable.

I too got a bunch of B's using a 1 GB drive, then just used an external CD drive that worked fine, but probably took longer. I don't really want to sacrifice one of my larger thumb drives for this.

I've used an old 10GB USB HD, the restore to the One SSD took 20 minutes.

    Hi,

About the time it takes me 20 to 25 minutes with a 2 GB pen. It's probably the time need to do the system restore.

    Thanks

    Hi,

I had the same problem with the "BB BB BB" characters appearing on boot, and
then resume booting from internal disk.

I solved it by re-writing the MBR (Master Boot Record) for the USB disk.
    I used lilo -M /dev/<device_where_your_usb_key_is_goes_here>

If your linux installation does not have lilo (or you don't use linux), you can
always find lilo on the latest knoppix linux bootable cd/dvd ( http://www.knoppix.org/)

Do you mean that once you use the USB drive as a bootable for Linpus, you can no longer use it for anything else?

    Thanks!
