On the very first day I bought my AAO, besides being able to do internet browsing and some document editing. I wanted 3 things out of the tiny laptop. Photo editing, raw photo conversion and being able to view divx files. The first two was addressed by installing GIMP and Rawstudio. The last item on my list was solved by installing VLC. Now VLC for me is an excellent player. However, there are times when I am trying to view movies, the sound gets a little scratchy. I tried using the normalize sound feature in VLC, this cured about 90% of the scratching sounds, but I still do get them. Could this be cured by some sort of driver upgrade?

Not sure if the two are connected, but following a recent update to the audio driver (Linpus) , sound quality has noticeably deteriorated with much higher background noise, particularly on one channel. I have reported this to Acer. Try rolling back to the older driver if you can.

    I use VLC 0.8.6.
I checked Extended GUI in Preferences-TAB.
In Audio filters I checked Headphone effect.
    Problem seems to be solved...

    I installed alsamixergui
    Code:
    sudo yum install alsamixergui
to give me more control and turned the pcm volume up and the master volume down.

Think vlc may have access to more sound volume controls than mplayer, because I didn't notice a problem before I installed vlc.

Where can I find the sound driver? My sound has quit and I suppose that I need to reinstall. I will do without sound rather than reinstall linpus and lose my present configuration.
