I have tried to install so many different versions now I will share my experience with each.

Fedora 10 - Looks beautiful but the package updater is SO SLOW it became unbearable.

Ubuntu Xubuntu Kubuntu 8.10 - All work nicely but wifi needs some tweaking and if you use an SD in the left slot DO NOT
suspend. It will corrupt the system.

Ubuntu 8.04 Netbook Remix - Looks great but installed as ext3. Similar problems with suspend/hibernate.

Linux Mint v6 - Works nicely with same issues as Ubuntu

Opensuse 11.1 - Works very well (quite slow) but power up / down over 3 minutes just too long.

Sabayon V4 - Tricky to install on little SSD but the Live DVD is fantastic. KDE with Compiz is incredible.

in fedora 10 it's much quicker to use yum from the command line rather than the packagekit gui ;)

My Opensuse 11.1 is booting in not more than 50 sec till wifi working and is by far the most responsive distro (KDE3.5.10) with glxgears rating more than 1200fps! Only shutdown is a littele slow but who cares... :)

The xorg.conf that I posted is right out of the box. No tweaks.

unless your making the glxgears window really small i doubt the 1200fps claim,

    Code:
    [phil@aspire Download]$ glxgears
    1599 frames in 5.0 seconds = 319.650 FPS
    1646 frames in 5.0 seconds = 329.065 FPS
    1602 frames in 5.0 seconds = 320.307 FPS
    1635 frames in 5.0 seconds = 326.985 FPS
    1608 frames in 5.0 seconds = 321.529 FPS

this is from my Fedora 10 aspire one 150 1GB ram 120GB h/d, so i can't believe that opesuse is getting 5 times the performance in opengl?

I tried the Mandriva 2009.0 Live and it worked straight off the CD. Brilliant.
Wifi works , apps, etc., work.
I'm waiting for the Mandriva 2009.1 update and if that works well then I will update to that.

BTW: I use the Macles backup/restore program on a USB external hard disk and it makes recovery/backup really simple.

this is my glxgears terminal output after a fresh boot:
    Code:
    cheffe@AAO:~> glxgears
    973 frames in 5.0 seconds = 194.599 FPS
    5631 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1126.180 FPS
    5717 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1143.375 FPS
    5839 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1167.786 FPS
    5793 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1158.457 FPS
    5659 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1131.666 FPS
    5635 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1126.937 FPS
    ^C

    AAO110L/512MB ram.
Opensuse 11.1 is the most snappy distro I found. Much faster than Ubuntu, Mandriva or Fedora. As it is also the "youngest" distro maybe they already have an improved intel video driver.

I get those kinds of numbers if I minimise the glxgears window, wondering if that is the case here?

FWIW I got about 793fps in glxgears with no xorg.conf file and the Fedora 2.6.27.5-117.fc10.i686 kernel. Using the same kernel with sombrero's xorg.conf file I got about 781 fps.

obtain operations of the sabayan v$ operating system
you mention that it required a trick, would you mind sharing ?

ok guys there seems to be some major differences between our various aao's, how about we standardise our glxgears command and try again? how about using
    Code:
    glxgears -geometry 300x300+362+150

and then copying and pasting the output from the console here.
