    hello,

I'm new here and also new to linux. I purchased this Acer Aspire One few months back. Everything worked fine, until an update was available, which I downloaded and installed. Upon restarting, everything loaded, and seemed ok, except the network icon had an X on it. The switch on the front of the laptop, or the wireless switch does not light up when turned on. I have no network connection.

I did a few commands from the terminal and here it is:

You don't have any wireless connections because you don't have a kernel module loaded to handle wireless connections. You removed the ath5k driver (which, by the way, certainly worked for me in 2.6.29 kernels), but never loaded the madwifi (ath_pci) driver. Perhaps you need to install a kernel module containing the madwifi driver?? Personally, I'd try using the ath5k driver first.

Thanks for the response. I would appreciate if you can walk me through how to install module just in case something goes wrong.

    Thanks,
