I check this about once per month. Currently getting the message - incorrect information file, please run again to fix problem -
Anyone else had this. I ran my backup which has fixed Live Update problems before - but not this time.

I get the same message. I did a wipe and reinstall over the weekend
    I assume it's a server problem.
Hopefully they will fix it soon so that I can get back up to date.

Did you fix the problem with the live updates, I have only had my notebook a couple of days and already having problems = no updates and no webcam

If you Acer is new maybe there are no updates - or do you get an error message? Don't know about the webcam - but I think it may have been covered somewhere in the forum?

Hi it comes with a wrong file information file and asks to re-try updating to fix the problem but it says same thing over and over again (terminology might be out a little bit sorry)

have tried another update (well tried over and over again), the message it says is retreiving data from server then it comes up with "incorrect information file" please re-try updates to fix the problem.

I have sorted the problem with the webcam, just need to uncheck a tick box under accounts.

Live update was still broken last night (wed 27th) it's been out of action at least since last Friday.
so my AA1 is now running Ubuntu UNR.
I did get it to experiment on after all :D
much longer boot times than Linpus but once it's up it's rather nice.

I'm getting an i/o error too. Halfway through

    "Installing (A patch for Network Manager(180048) )"

    It freezes and says

" i/o error cannot open files"

*SOLVED* by opening at terminal (ALT+F2) and running liveupdate from that using the command: onlineupdate
This showed that it wasn't finding the relevant .xml file for the update. When I searched for the update in /var/cache/online-updater/ I found that the .xml file was actually called 'NM_option0025v2.sh .xml' NOTE THE EXTRA SPACE between .sh and .xml
Just renaming without the space didn't work, because each time I started live update, it would re-download the same update, and crash again. So with a second terminal window open, I started the update running, and while it was doing its thing... got rid of the space in the file name (cp /var/cache/online-updater/NM_option0025v2.sh\ .xml /var/cache/online-updater/NM_option0025v2.sh.xml)
It ran smoothly once it found that file.

There is a thread running in
Board index ‹ Software Related ‹ Software - Linux ‹ Live Update Issue
which explains what is going on, looks like someone at Acer misstyped a filename.
doesn't explain why they haven't fixed it though.

I tried this 3 or 4 times. Tonight it worked. Downloaded updates although I am unsure what. Main thing I can see is the 3G connect card manager icon in Connect group. Why dont you try it tonight ?

    Good luck,

I just ran liveupdate at 1730 EDT without any issues. I had been avoiding applying the huawei (or whatever it was called) patch for 3G connections, but because I was having some other issues, applied it anyway. My other issues didn't go away, and when I went back to liveupdate after reboot, it said my system is up to date.

I took the machine back to comet. Got fed up with emailing Acer and getting silly answers like:

Q: cannot loads updates as keep getting incorrect information file

A: have you tried updating the system by running the updates

As you can see got a little bit annoyed, I now have the windows version but haven't tried the updates or anything on that yet.

    Hi

i Just got my notebook 2 days ago, I am very new to linux & Linpus.
i use it in my office where it goes through a proxy to connect to the internet, it browse without any problem
but when click live update, it says it can not connect to the update server, i should check network cable and status.
I face the same problem when i try to install VLC, i can't get down fedora, it complains about not beign able to connect.

Is it that this machine can not work well with proxy servers?

    Please somebody help me.
    Thanks,

    Pere
