I have had a half dozen instances of the computer locking up.
First few times it was running games like super tux and puck.

Lastnight it again lockeded when it stopped playing a dvd movie. By morning it would not respond at all.

Isn't there a way to make it quit programs or fix this annoying issue with it crapping out?

Ctrl-alt-del will bring up the System Monitor, which allows you to see what's hogging resources and kill offending programs.

Thanks daldred. So that's where the kernel info and system info is kept? Cool. Was wondering how to find the names for devices like the added SDHC card. Its all there including system resources and cpu processes. Good stuff.

 OK. I finally was able to control alt delete to see what processes were running because it once again would not shut down.
The following processes were marked uninterruptible and were using 0% cpu...
    pcm
    amixer
    gmplayer.

Just before this problem I was running the media player and playing some videos. Then when <I closed the player and clicked on another video, it would not run the player. For a long time the progress indicator was running but when it quit the player had still not opened.
I was forced to hold the power button down to shut down the computer.
