My dream PC is this configuration: Aspire One - 512MB (or a gig), 120GB HDD, Linpus Linux Lite (Sapphire Blue)

But all I am really looking for is the ~$350USD blue aspire with a hard drive, I can upgrade the ram and switch it to Linux myself, but the ssd to hdd conversion looks like a bit more of an inconvenience and expense then I want to bother with.

The problem is Everywhere is sold out, everywhere! I have been looking for five hours. (Except for one place not in my state for local pickup and tiger direct of Canada) All I can find is the cheap 8gig ssd linux model, And I really don't want a SSD, I want to be able to have gigabytes of iso images of various operating systems on a portable computer so I can run them over tftp and a crossover cable, 8 gigs just wont cut it.

Does anyone know any place selling the hard drive based aspire? If anyone finds one and lets me know I would be incredibly grateful.

Also what is going on with this 400 dollar windows one, what is different that makes that version so much more expensive? Has it replaced the old $350 version I used to see?

The $399 XP model is forthcoming and comes with a 160gb drive along with a six-cell battery. It's the latter component that many of us are waiting for.

If you are after a blue 120GB / 3-cell, your current best bet seems to be to find a friend who lives near a Micro Center store and convince them to buy one there / ship it to you. We acquired one at Best Buy a week and a half ago and they are still displaying on BB's web page currently, but I've seen none actually come in to the local stores since.

Mwave has the white 3-cell / 120gb in stock, but they're asking $409 for them. Well, still cheaper than a Wind, I guess.

i live in houston, checked 35 different stores over the weekend. no one has any of the HDD w/XP models. I even checked microcenter and fry's. No one would even sell me the display models. Every circuit city I went to had the 8gig SSD models, and I ended up just getting one, as I was short on time, and my wife is mostly just going to use it for documents.

Thanks a lot lostfizzle, Now I get why they why that model costs so much more.

So it seems like they killed off the HDD+3cell combo... Either that or have just diverted all their production into this new model for a while. Does anyone know if that 350 dollar XP is gone for good or just out of stock?

I wish I knew someone in chicagoland, but sadly I don't.

I guess getting a six cell isn't so bad, but I really liked the psychological effect of a 350 dollar laptop. And I really really don't want to touch SSDs for another few years, (And If I ever do, I can just stick it in the standard SATA that the A150 has.) Anyone care to speculate on if the 6cell will get a quick price drop as well after the rush of pre-orders die down? (Not that I can wait anyways)

My local Micro Center (Cambridge/Boston) seems to burn through them, but still has '74' AOA150-1570's in stock.

It doesn't seem like they're phasing the 3 cell XJ version out.

If you buy the 3cell HDD from a retail store you'll get charged for $375 after tax.

stores that charge higher than retail is in my opinion trying to ripoff the consumer. i give those stores LOW MARKS. kudos to microcenter.com for quickly adjusting the price to $349 and keeping it at $349.

You sort of missed the point, J&R is charging almost 390 dollars for this laptop after shipping, While Amazon is taking preorders for a laptop with double the battery life and more hard drive space For Ten Dollars More (Including shipping!)

You would have to be pretty impatient to buy from that store at the moment.
