Any suggestions? Tried pychess and gnuchess from the repository but they won't run on my AA1 (Linpus).

    You can try gnome-games packages:
    Code:
    # yum install gnome-games

    # yum install gnuchess
    # yum install xboard

Worked for me, and enabled the `chess' icon in the XFCE menu.

The only problem is that gnuchess uses 100% even when it's _your_ move. This causes the machine to get warm. I believe this behaviour is not considered a bug by the gnuchess people.

Chess programs "think" during your turn. There should be an option in gnuchess yo deactivate this feature (makes the program play weaker because it has less time to think).

Indeed. I've just discovered that you can turn this `feature' off from the xboard GUI -- it's `options|ponder next move'.

gnuchess can beat me handsomely without using 100% CPU 100% of the time :)

    Hey guys
I tried Arena, and it works on my AA1.
Arena runs under windows, and linux with wine.
    to install wine:
    yum install wine
to run arena with a click
    launch thunar
select dir where the arena executable is located
right click and launch with wine.
have fun, and select chess engine you want.
    :p

try the Chess+ widget in Opera. It works great, it's super light and you don't need to tweak anything...
