Hello everybody. I have an Aspire One with Linpus Linux, but the only application I ever use is Firefox. So I'm looking for a Linux that will boot directly to Firefox, maybe like a Web kiosk kind of setup (and I want Firefox 3, not 2 that comes with Linpus). I don't want to waste my resources on KDE or Gnome or whatever desktop environment that comes with Linpus. And I don't want to waste disk space on an office suite or games or IM or e-mail. Just Firefox. My only other requirement is that wireless has to work. Is there any such Linux out there, or can one be customized easily?

Why don't you just strip down the existing Linpus? Wouldn't that be easier than starting again from scratch? Just find the place in the xinit scripts where the window manager is launched, and launch firefox instead. You can easily and without complication remove all the office stuff just be doing `rpm -e'. The set of services that start up with Linpus are pretty minimial -- I'd be surprised if you can get the background memory usage _much_ lower than it currently is, even with a custom installation.

In my view, it would take a lot of work for very little extra benefit.

Thank you for the reply. Yes, I would be happy to edit a script to launch Firefox instead of the existing window manager. I didn't know that was possible. Only two problems: First I want Firefox 3 instead of version 2 that comes with Linpus. I've seen some other threads about using Firefox 3, and some people say to use one from the repositories and others say to use the one from the Firefox website. What are the pros and cons of each? And second, you say:
That sounds good, except I don't know what a xinit script is or how to find it and edit it. Maybe somebody could help me with that? I did a search for xinit and there are several files/folders with xinit in the name.Sorry to be so helpless.

Sorry for replying to myself, but I just thought of another question. It appears that the network manager launches after the Linpus desktop. How could I configure my wireless connection if I replace the desktop?
