Two day old AA1 that was running fine with all the live updates, VLC and Skype installed. That's all...then I right clicked and used the update to search for some solitaire games from PySolFC. After the update, I lost my desktop and only get a black screen instead of the desktop. In top right corner of screen is a box letting me select between desktop and internet. There is a bar along bottom with a house in bottom left - when I click the house I get the message

Could not run command: xfdesktop2 --gohome:
Failed to execute child process "xfdesktop2" (No such file or directory)

I am able to conncect wifi (the 'connectec' notice pops up), adjust screen brightness, volume, etc.
I am able to open a terminal after searching "terminal" in desktop mode. How do I get my desktop back? I read some post from Aug 08 where someone had the same problem and it was suggested he open a terminal just like I did...but the thread ended there. Didn't give anymore instructions what to do in terminal.

I have no backup since I was just getting the AA1 customized with a couple of added programs and tweaks. I sure would not like to re-install and start all over for just this xfdesktop error.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks

If you open a terminal and do:

    ls -l /usr/bin/xfdesktop*

    what are the results?

    Cheers.

    entering: ls -l /usr/bin/xfdesktop*
    I get:
    -rwxr -..... (in green) /usr/bin/xfdesktop2.bak
    -rwxr....... (in green) /usr/bin/xfdesktop2.joy
    .......................... /usr/bin/xfdesktop.bak
    .........................../usr/bin/xfdesktopnew
    ........................... /usr/bin/xfdesktop-old
    ........................... /usr/bin/xfdesktop-xfce

    Is that any clue?

I'd get more of a clue if you actually posted the results and not a bunch of ..... :)

    Cheers.

CAn you do what rbil asked and post the listing of that directory (in full, not dotted out!)?
