lost desktop icons

    update firefox on aspire one worked ok but when i turned it on again I have no I cons I do have the search bar and the bottom bar but wont let me do anything except when i click on the home icon it says
    Could not run xfdesktop2--go home
    failed to execute child process
    xfdesktop2 permission denied
    I cant get into the root as it wont except my password and when i tried to do recovery it says
    invalid system disk what do I do now any help please I have tried lots of stuff that i found on here but to affect
