lost toolbar

    My daughter has an Acer One netbook and today the toolbar has disappeared which means she cant check her internet status etc. She also has a strange box with what looks like a star in the middle appearing. When right clicking this box it says 'new item not yet configured. I think if i could get the toobar back I could cure the other problem. Help please
