On boot up receive isass.exe error insufficient system resources exist to complete the API

Get the same error if choosing safe mode or any other choice

    No HDD
    No USB CD-ROM

The error occurred after my daughter copied photographs from her phone onto her Acer Aspire One. I can only imagine this has left very little space for Windows XP to run.

Anyone, am I right and more importantly what on earth can I do to get the much valued netbook up and running again?

    Thanks for the reply vpnavy.

Tried search myself and found opinion split 50-50. Some sites claiming that lsass.exe is not a virus or a worm, that's why I included the bit about my daughter copying photos. She has errantly put them onto the internal SSD and taken the available space down to approx 17Kb.

Problem is how will I ever know if I can't get the netbook to boot externally.

Thanks everyone for your time & trouble

Wow - you said: "...left very little space for Windows XP to run..." but didn't mention that she took you down to 17KB! OMG - didn't think XP would even allow that!

Now, in order to get the Netbook to boot externally, you have to get into BIOS. When you boot - a little message pop's up in the lower left corner with a Function Key (I can't remember what it was) to go into BIOS setup. Once you get into BIOS - their should be a parameter that allows you to specify the boot cycle look up - in otherwords, you can say boot from USB before you boot from internal Fixed Drive, etc.

    Thanks again vp

F8 takes you into BIOS set up. I believe, from reading thru' some of the post here, that Windows will not support a boot source from a removable drive, does that rules out all external SSD and USB sources. I truely feel that if I can only get into the drive C; remove the pictures folder then we will be back up and running.

Again thanks to everyone who has helped out.

I just booted my Aspire ONE and it is F2 at boot. I then browsed and found that you can set it to USB. Why don't you turn on your system and check it out.

Sorry, you're right. F8 is Windows to no effect. Trying F2. Thanks

    SUCCESS

Created bootable flash drive and managed to chisel enough space on drive C to allow it to boot.

Created the bootable flash using the above utility. Superb.

    Thanks to everyone
