Right guys well that didnt work so I started from scratch, erased the disk and installed following the instructions properly this time, weirdly once again after 10.5.6 update and reinstalling my backed up Keyb Prefpane file etc. the onboard touchpad and keyb still dont work. I've tried deleting the .lproj file as also mentioned and that didnt work either. I also tried using robo's Prefpane again as well and still no joy.

I've plowed ahead doing all the other steps with an external keyb and mouse and everything else seems fine, just this one snag at the moment!

    Any ideas guys?

How do I uninstall the sound shutdown thing? or just delete the file would be fine. Experimenting with sleep again.

Yep, simply removing the ShutdownSound folder should be ok.

Why would the shutdownsound thing affect sleep? Could this be the reason i was experiencing a hang when i tried to put my AAO into hibernation?

Err... It would not, I guess. What made you think so?

Your reply to rory's query a couple posts up! He said he wanted to experiment with sleep, and thus wanted to disable the shutdown sound. You responded without comment so I got the impression that it was understood that what he was doing was logical.. ;)

Never mind. I'm still wondering why my AAO crashes when I try to hibernate...

Hi mate, If you mean during install where you select the elements to install I did check the PS2 box, like i said the keyboard was working before 10.5.6 update.

I've even tried reionstalling appleps2keyboard.kext via Kext Helper B7, not sure if that would have worked though.....

If I disable SecureVirtual memory, and try to sleep,it gets further than normal and kernel panics. Try it out and see.

Has anyone installed OSX on the 8GB SSD? If yes, what file system is best? With or without Journaling?
People always say you should use a non-journaling file system on SSD....ist this also applicable for OS X?

Any other recommendations for installing OS X on the slow SSD?
Or will it never ever run suitable on the SSD?

Or in other words, is it a good idea to put OS X on the A110 with 8GB SSD and 512MB RAM?

Thanks and sorry for my bad swiss-school-english

Agreed. Not enough memory, and combined with the tiny slow SSD it will be dire.

So I repaired permissions, zapped the PRAM (don't know if that still does anything at this point), and started all over again with redownloading the image. By now I must have followed the directions to the letter about 15 times, and still the Acer won't boot from the drive.

I'm using an external powered USB hard drive enclosure with an 80 GB Western Digital drive inside. It occurs to me that I'm not 100% sure that the enclosure is USB 2.0. Could that possibly cause a problem?

I've tried installing both the PC EFI v8 and the Chameleon EFI.

I've tried erasing the destination when I restore from and not doing so.

The last few times I tried this, I was even sure to verify the md5 every time I did it.

I don't know what I could possibly be doing wrong, and I'm really at my wit's end. Does anyone have any ideas for me? Please feel free to ask any questions about any part of my set up that you feel might be relevant.

    Thanks!!

Install on 8GB SSD from extra 8GB SSD?

I'm up for trying this out even if it is "Dire"

Is it possible to somehow boot from USB and then point to the .ISO image stored on an extra 8GB SSD and install to the main 8GB SSD?

I'm asking because I don't have an external DVD or CD with my Aspire One but I can copy the .ISO over to the Aspire One and i'm wondering if there's a method to install from the hard-drive or call up the .ISO in a dos environment?

You can boot from USB of course, how would you boot from en external CD/DVD drive otherwise?

Just plug in your external SSD drive and press F12 when the BIOS screen shows up, then choose this drive in the boot menu.
