    It's out!

    http://www.mandriva.com/

I want to install this but when using wvdial from the Live disk i get a segmentation error - anyone know if this will work fine when i install to the SSD? Works fine from Ubuntu Live! I quite like Mandriva but i might wait for the Ibex if i can't use my phone as a modem.

Why use wvdial in Mandriva? The network centre seems to work with both 3G USB dongles and mobile phone through bluetooth. I even managed to get a Samsung D900i working as a modem using USB through network centre.

Just installed Mandrive 2009.0 KDE LiveOne final into a 4GB usb stick. My Huawei E220 modem works out of the box finally (RC1 and RC2 didn't). Doesn't need to install any extra applications as the NetManager configures and dial the modem to my ISP. All the function keys are working. Everything are working fine. I'm going to install it into an external 2.5" hdd later on.

I didn't really like Mandriva, maybe it's just because Ive been a windows user for like 10 years (or more)..

I changed out my Acer's 120-Gigs hard drive for a 250-Gigs 2.5" SATA drive. (yes, is is a normal 2.5" laptop hard drive.) I used Norton Ghost to move the factory WindowsXP restore and work partitions over to it. I then made an extended partition with a 2.2 Gigs swap file, and two 22 Gigs ext2 partitions, one for Mandriva and the other for Ubuntu eee.

After failing to get WIFi working on an Ubuntu 8.04.1 (normal Ubuntu, not eee version) install, no matter what, I have installed Mandriva Live One 2009 in the first partition. Amazingly, WiFI worked out of the box, but the wired (Realtek) ethernet connection does NOT work. Is this wierd, or what? Mandriva is VERY fast!

HELP me get my wired connection working!!!
