    Hiya!

I can't find a definite answer on this one:
    - the AAO has 512M onboard RAM
    - the bios supports up to 2Gig RAM (I am using 3304 bios)
    - the 512M cannot be disabled (I checked, there's no option in the bios)

so, I have a 2Gig RAM slice available that should fit in the AAO (it has the right specs according to the manual)

    what will happen:
    - it wont post/boot
    - it boots and just ignores the 512MB extra memory (I really hope so!)

I'd like to know for sure before I open it up.. and have to reopen it up if it doesn't work :)

    thanks!

I've managed to boot with 2GB SODIMM installed, but with the same 1.5GB max total memory available to the system.
I've patched SPD on SODIMM with SPDtool, reducing rows number (14->13), so module now looks like 1GB to the bios.
Now waiting for 2GB bios support (it's possible, MSI Wind is the proof), in order to get full 2GB without disassembling AA1 again:)

Then actually you did not put full 2GB...

    Of course.
But (if acer add 2G support in future bios versions) i'll get full 2G by simply running SPDtool in one minute:)

but i think the chipset supports 1gb per slot max, that was the original thinking here ages ago, dont know if it has since been clarified, but we thought the 2gb max came from 1gb per slot, so unless u unsolder it you get 1gb max

    can anyone clarify for CERTAIN.

The chipset supports 1Gbit devices, so there is no hardware limits for 2GB SODIMM support (MSI U100, based on the same chipset, can disable onboard RAM and accept 2GB module). Only BIOS support needed.

Remember i815? It supports 3 DIMM, up to 512MB DIMM size (16 256Mbit chips), but only 512MB total memory.

fair enough... glad to have real clarification.
I did see the wind had a bios which disable the onboard RAM, but I guess MSI must like the modding scene.
