Re: RAM. What Works, What Doesn't

    Hello

Thinking of upgrading the memory on my acer and was wondering which module should I go for. Looked on play.com and came up with three:

    http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/931259/Co ... oduct.html
    http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/931256/Co ... oduct.html
    PNY PC5300 / 1GB / 667MHz / DDR2 / 200pin SoDIMM Laptop Memory

    Or from 7dayshop
    http://www.7dayshop.com/catalog/product ... _id=103445 (SO-DIMM DDR2 800Mhz (PC2-6400) - 1GB)

They are all £10 but was wondering which are guaranteed to work.

    Thanks.

Re: RAM. What Works, What Doesn't

Just tonight I installed the CT868498 1GB DDR2-667 RAM module from Crucial in my AAO.

    http://www.crucial.com/uk/store/mpartsp ... B9A5CA7304

It currently costs just £11.49 delivered. It is even specifically advertised by Crucial as a perfect memory upgrade for the AAO (see the web link). Payment by PayPal, fast delivery and it worked flawlessly too (famous last words...).

Performance increase is instantly noticeable. RTCW now loads much faster and plays considerably smoother!

Re: RAM. What Works, What Doesn't

Look, it's very simple, just go to www.crucial.uk.com and put in your model no. and buy the RAM. My original Acer One was the Linux version with 120GB hardrive and 512Mb Ram. I bought the 1GB module from Crucial, just over £8 delivered, installed following instructions elsewhere on this forum and that was it. Partitioned the drive using gpart and installed XP. Now dual boots a dream. Just do it!!

Just got my New Acer Aspire One D150-1577 from NewEgg Upgraded to 2GB before the first boot. Works great, blazing fast for a Netbook, after getting rid of all the Acer preinstalled junk.

Re: RAM. What Works, What Doesn't

I tried on my AOA110 first a Transcend 1G DDR2 800Mhz SO-DIMM, and it was a no go, BIOS reported 512MB even after reseating the module a bunch of times. Decided to buy a Kingston KVR667D2S5/1G which seemed to be popular in the forums and had many "it's working" reports. Again, was a no go, still BIOS only reports 512MB. I don't know what to do at this point. Might my motherboard be faulty?

Re: RAM. What Works, What Doesn't

I remember looking at the spec of Kingston 512MB, 1GB & 2GB modules and for some reason the 1GB module used a lot more power consumption then the 512MB or 2GB maybe this has something to do with it - don't know if it's that exact model number you mention though

Re: RAM. What Works, What Doesn't

Bought the Kingston KVR667D2SO/2GR, installed with ease(don't be afraid to pop off the memory module panel, it has tabs all around holding it in place). AAO-D150 recognized right off at restart, no problems at all.

Re: RAM. What Works, What Doesn't

A LOT OF THE INFORMATION HERE IS USELESS, SINCE IT LACKS IMPORTANT INFORMATION!

YOU HAVE TO UNDERSTAND THAT SOME PROBLEMS, SUCH AS START-UP PROBLEMS, FOLLOWING A WRONG MEMORY UPGRADE WILL ONLY REVEAL ITSELF AFTER SOME TIME.

PLEASE WAIT WITH REPORTING ABOUT WHAT WORKS AT LEAST 3 WEEKS AFTER THE UPGRADE. AND, STATE HOW LONG TIME YOU HAVE USED THE MACHINE AFTER THE UPGRADE!

IF you follow this simple rule the information will be useful to other people, including me. Trust me, the fact that the machine starts up and works faster after a memory upgrade does not imply that it will run well in the future. I bought a 1Gb Kingston memory module on the recommendation from an established web retail firm. It seemed to have the correct specification. But, on the airport, on my way to the big conference with almost finished transparances the machine refused to start up. Removing the memory upgrade solved all problems.

Re: RAM. What Works, What Doesn't

I tried the same Kingmax module and it didn't work. The power light will come on but the AA1 won't boot at all. I made sure the module was installed correctly. Might be a faulty module?

Installed an ASint DDR2 1GB-800 (SSY2128M8-JGEEF) today and it works. I maxed out the total 1.5GB available RAM with no hassles. Will report after 3 weeks if it's still running with no problems.

Edit: Its been a while now and the ASint RAM is still running smoothly.
