Re: RAM. What Works, What Doesn't

As long as the order is placed through their Memory Advisor tool, they say they guarantee compatibility. The link I provided is the one the Memory Advisor takes you to. Here is the stats on their memory: DDR2 PC2-4200, DDR2-533, CL=4, Unbuffered, NON-ECC, 1.8V, 128Meg x 64.

I wish I had just bought from them the fist time, instead of waisting time and $18 on an incompatible sick. :x I have a feeling that most of the incompatible RAM is due to either the voltage specs, or maybe the CL=>4.

Re: RAM. What Works, What Doesn't

    OCZ ddr2 667 - pc2 5400 - 1 GB WORKS JUST FINE!

$11 on newegg after rebates. :p

People Be Careful! -RAM Upgrade is no easy deal on this thing, I stripped off two screw heads during the process and had to have them drilled out. Plus one screw is different size, the one under the keyboard on the rightmost side. Make sure you have a screwdriver kit / set and dont push hard if the screw is not moving..

(I am lucky to work for an engine manufacturing company, tooling dept had all sorts of drills. It could cost you and the machine a lot if you dont have access to such a thing. Just be careful)

BTW, Should I call Acer and order those 2 missing screws? What if they ask what the heck I did with them? Uhm, just lost them in my room... :)

Re: RAM. What Works, What Doesn't

I agree on you about this.. Acer made it hard for us to access the memory slot, good thing about us geeks, we dont care about warranties....lol

    I used a Buffalo PC2 5400 DDR667 1gb for 24.95 + CA Tax... works great!

Re: RAM. What Works, What Doesn't

I don't understand your problems. With the right screwdriver there is no problem. I disassembled my A1 twice, the hardest part was removing the keyboard without scratches and the cable of the SSD. I don't see any problems with the screws

Re: RAM. What Works, What Doesn't

i know that 2GB sticks wont work but tried it just for the hell of it

    A-Data DDR2 800 200pin 2GB Module Unbuffered SO-DIMM Non-ECC Memory
doesnt work, wont even get to bios screen

then tried an older ram (this is off CPUz info):
    micron technology 1024MB PC2-5300
    and this one works

and lost a rubber feet in the process, so how do you guys (as in with what) glue back the rubber feet at the back anyways :p

2GB will not work. See the Official specifications sticky or several of the early RAM discussions.
