Re: RAM. What Works, What Doesn't

I have posted this elsewhere but please be aware that memory upgrade (even if carried out professionally) is regarded by Acer as an AUTOMATIC violation of your warranty. Do so at your own risk.

Re: RAM. What Works, What Doesn't

Having posted this earlier on a couple of other threads it seems that Acer's policy is rather selective so you might be lucky and get warranty service---or not as in my case :-(

    corsair 1GB 533mhz PC2-4200 (value ram) @16,15€, working :)

btw: had problems installing the ram at first, the first try ended unsuccessful cos of a upc sticker covering the ram socket on one side. the ram clicked in place but wasn't recognized by the mb or os (duh!). i only found out after taking the A1 apart again and checking the slot thoroughly for broken pins or dust particles. after cleaning the socket all worked well. the module is being recognized correctly in bios and by the os (1,5Gb total)

    Transcend DDR2 1GB JetRam
    200P SO-DIMM (128Mx64)
    (64Mx8 DDR2 667 5-5-5 1.8v)

    Works. :D

PS. Windows XP still lags when you click a button. Ie. Firefox Search.
With 512MB I could not run World of Warcraft, now I can - and it is actually playable.

Re: RAM. What Works, What Doesn't

1gb hynix - pc6400 works fine, just installed it on my 120gb hard drive model
btw the hard model i have (120gb linux model), the built in 512mb ddr is acutally a part of the motherboard, and not a solidered in sodimm stick like the ssd models. The onboard ddr ram chips in my model are hynix as well.

It's not a soldered so-dimm in the SSD models either.

Re: RAM. What Works, What Doesn't

That's not completely true. Some ram won't work because their timings might b different or set to something odd that the chipset can't do. Also the voltages could possibly rated differently.

Re: RAM. What Works, What Doesn't

Dane-Elec S2D667-06428-D (1GiB) also works. Had to reinstall the memory about 3 times before I could see the BIOS screen again. I think the SoDIMM slot was dirty or something. I removed the sticker and cleaned the pins, and suddenly it worked :D

Also had some trouble reattaching the touchpad. I managed to break off the little black.. thingie. But after reattaching it (took me about 20 minutes  ) it worked like never before :D

To those posting stating that Transcend DDR2 PC5300 (667Mhz) 1GB works, I can confirm this on my AA1-110!

Re: RAM. What Works, What Doesn't

Tried a Micron 256MB DDR2 667MHz module (MT4HTF3264HY-667B3) and it works fine! So I guess there must be something wrong with this 512MB module.

    Upgraded with Kingston VR 1GB 667MHz DDR2 SODIMM KVR667D2S5/1GB

No problems (bios version 0.3109) with this stick.
