Re: RAM. What Works, What Doesn't

I upgraded w/ Crucial PC2-4200 SODIMM and it works well. That's what Crucial.com advised to get. In fact, the Acer website says the bus speed is 533Mhz, so PC2-4200 does seem the best choice...

Re: RAM. What Works, What Doesn't

I upgraded my AOA 150-1570 today. I added ram and changed out the wireless card. My AOA had 1GB factory installed.

The factory installed 512GB module in the socket was:
    M470T6554EZ3-CE6 BJW 512MB 200p PC2-5300 CL5 8c 32x16 DDR2-667 SODIMM T004-RFB Korea, Samsung

So, the factory installed SODIMM was DDR2-667! So, I figured I'd replace it with the same spec 1GB module.

    I used:

    Crucial 1GB, 200p DDR2 SODIMM, 128MX64, PC2-5300
    Part # CT12864AC667

I've put it through the paces today and it is running without issue. Apparently it is ok to mix densities, as this new SODIMM is low density.

The wireless card I put in is:
GIGABYTE GN-WI07HT 2.4/5Ghz - Atheros AR5006EX Wireless miniPCI EXPRESS card [GNWI07HT-S0]. I chose this card because the university I attend has many '802.11a' (5Ghz) access points. This band demands much less power from the AOA's wireless card.

The disassembly/re-assembly went swimmingly! Not a mark on it. Nevertheless, I hope that I never need to disassemble it again...

just upgraded my Aspire One 120gb version sucessfully.

    Kingston KVR667D2S5/1G

Followed the youtube tutorial on how to disassemble the aspire one, but things became pretty different when trying to lift the motherboard out, since the video was of the 8gb ssd version.

i dunno if this was mentioned already but i asked www.ncix.com what ram works best for the One. below is copy paste of my email communication with the tech.

    so i guess Corsair PC2-5300 1GB 1x1GB DDR2-667 is good?

    Hi Robert,
The only ram that we have done a fair bit of testing with and can be quite confident in recommending is the Corsair PC2-5300 1GB 1x1GB DDR2-667 (SKU 18811). In regards to compatibility with other RAM, we recommend you contact the RAM manufacturers directly.

    hi.
i was wondering if any generic ram will work with the Acer Aspire One. i'm concerned because some laptops are very finicky with the brand and type of ram, especially with the timings. can you please tell me which ram you recommend for it?
i'm looking for the cheapest possible one. can i use the Corsair or Kingston 1gb ddr2 pc4200 sticks?
    thank you.

Hypertec have a listing for the Aspire One on their site ...

    << Link to Hypertec >>

You will need to click through the options choosing the machine, as for some reason I can't link to the actual page.

Or you could copy and paste this ...
    www. hypertec.co.uk/drilllevel.php?superset=MEMORY&level=Product&flag=MEMBYMT&key=1726020&tl=100001¬110019¬1726007¬1726020
^^ remove space between www. & hypertec ^^

Re: RAM. What Works, What Doesn't

It's cool alot of 667mhz ram (533 mhz) compatible will work with the AAO since they have more of them availible in store. It's a shame acer never thought to make the single 2GB 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 533mhz (PC2 4200) Laptop Memory compatible.

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductLi ... 6&name=2GB

The only reson I can thinnk of is that even though it runs at 533 mhz, a two ghz ram chip would draw more power than a 1ghz ram chip? But I guess this comes from the same enineers who forgot the bottom door for easy ram access to begin with.

I think it's a great mini laptop besides these two ram issues, maybe it's all apart of their marketing plan. Rather then sell you a great mini they do it in mutiple versions of the model so that consumers will have a reason to upgrade to next years model when perhaps we might see dual core intel atom and may be even support for the single 4gb ram chips

Re: RAM. What Works, What Doesn't

You mean Gigabyte (GB), and i dont think its due to power rather pricing. And it was never designed to be upgraded LOL.
And its not Missing door due to engeneering, Its Due to costs. No door means less parts, means less Molds, and less work and labor and less produtcions steps = Cheaper. The Acer one is designed to be cheap.

The 3G is designed to be for Cellphone service it seems. Since you can see it is bound to a contract.

Right on mate...They want to keep their present higher RAM models seperate and market One as a netbook not a notebook!!! You can't get everything in life can you ;-)

Re: RAM. What Works, What Doesn't

I just upgraded the RAM from 512 MB by adding 1 GB of:

    Crucial 1GB, 200p DDR2 SODIMM, 128MX64, PC2-5300 (part # CT12864AC667)

so I'm confirming that this RAM from a previous post that it works! Man, this thing is sweet with 1.5G of RAM!

P.S. It took about 1.5 hr to take apart the unit. Hardest part was taking the keyboard off. Advice - don't push the 3 tabs (at the function keys) in too much when taking the keyboard off - make sure they spring back before you put that top cover back on.

Re: RAM. What Works, What Doesn't

I just did a ram upgrade on my AAO.

Is funny that u guys said the ram speed of the AAO is 533 mhz. but when i did the ram upgrade, i pulled out the 512mb ram that comes with my 1gb xp version.

The 512 ram has a label on it that said" Samsung 512MB 2Rx16 PC2-5300S". If i remember correctly 5300 should be 667 mhz.

so why would Acer use a 667mhz ram if the board only support 533 mhz?

Re: RAM. What Works, What Doesn't

I have bought an 2GB module with 800MHz speed yesterday, and now i found that in these forum at aspire one dose not officially support this model, but it is very difficault for me to return and change this module because I have bought this module from another county, so is it any way to use this memory module in aspire one ? the module is transent DDR2-800MHz 2GB

Re: RAM. What Works, What Doesn't

There's no way. First, it doesn't support that much. Second the AAO operates at 533mhz, not 800.
