Re: RAM. What Works, What Doesn't

    Hi,

Just upgraded my AAO with a PMY 1GB 667MHz SODIMM (SODI101GBN/5300/2APP) and it seems to be working fine. The BIOS and System Information reports memory now as 1536MB and I haven't noticed any problems.

One of the easiest Netbook/Laptops I've ever worked on and took me around 30 to 40 mins.

Interestingly, the PNY memory module is listed as suitable for an iMac, MacBook or MacBook pro!! Just something I managed to get a hold of and decided to try out.

    All the best,

    Ken...

Re: RAM. What Works, What Doesn't

Can anyone who did not get their ram working tell me which chipset is in their motherboard? (starts with intel945xxx)
The new intel945GME chipset supports 533/667 Mhz FSB.
The old intel945GSE chipset only supports 533 Mhz FSB.

Maybe those having their ram not working (assuming you installed it properly and it's less than 1gb) have the older chipset.

Works great! :D At first it didn't post, but I just didn't have the chip in all the way! Great deal! Great buy too, pretty cheap. I bought this one here at Best Buy here in the US for $39... Kind of high, but cheaper than the other ones that they had.. was priced at $69+...

Re: RAM. What Works, What Doesn't

Just installed an extra 1Gb of RAM with zero problems on my 8Gb SSD/512mb RAM AoA 110
The RAM I have bought was a cheap "Silicon Power DDR2-800" module. Paid AU$35 and installed it in 1.5hour using the guide on this forum. BIOS recognized the RAM and so did the XP system. :D

Re: RAM. What Works, What Doesn't

Just put an Esus EEPC 1 gb 667mhz card (from a friend who bought an EEEPC... the goober) and he had installed a 2gb in his.

It works fine (obviously, since I am using my AAO to type this)... it was a pain to install (esp. considering that all I had to do it with was a credit card and my trusty Victor Inox Swiss Army knife on a hotel desk...)

Works great. Hardest part was getting the keyboard to snap back into place... wow this little brick is tight!

Soooo, if you have a friend who has an EEEPC (or whatever it is, you know what I mean) and they bump to 2gb, beg em for theirs and it'll work just fine!

    Cheers!

Re: RAM. What Works, What Doesn't

Just picked up an Aspire One 10.1" D150-1165. I pulled out the single 1GB chip and popped in a 2GB Kingston DDR2 PC2-5300 667MHz model KVR667D2S0/2GR.
Recognized the memory no problems so this one works. Cost $24 at MicroCenter computer store.

    Kingston DDR2 PC2-5300 667MHz model KVR667D2S0/2GR (2GB memory) - Works

Re: RAM. What Works, What Doesn't

See Intel's documentation on 945GME chipset, Chapter 10.2.4 DRAM Technologies and Organization:
    http://www.intel.com/Assets/PDF/datasheet/309219.pdf
This seems to have something to do with whether the SODIMM is "stacked" and would only be critical when installing a 2Gig stick.
Yet another detail to throw into the mix when shopping for parts.

Re: RAM. What Works, What Doesn't

I first tried Kingston 1Go PC2-5300 667MHz DDR2 SODIMM 200-pin (P/N KVR667D2S5/1G 1.8V). Not good. Even after many re-installations, my AA would not even make it to the BIOS. Just a black screen with the fan turning. It returned to normal as soon as I removed the ram.

    I then tried Kingston 1Go PC2-4200 533MHz DDR2 SODIMM 200-pin (P/N KAC-MEME/1G 1.8V). No issue. It still works perfectly.
