I have just received my Aspire One, which I am posting on now, and I tried the messenger application but it wouldn't work because of a protocol error, so I searched here and it seemed I need to update. I updated but when downloading the printer update it crashed so I had to restart. Now the update still won't download the printer update because it can't connect to the acer server.

Any application I try to open now just won't open, I click the messenger icon and nothing happens, same with email and RSS reader, but the internet application do load firefox and the webpage. Anybody got any ideas of how to fix this?

    Thanks

Also the fn shortcut for volume does not work anymore after I attempted this update, I can't click on power center either and there is no battery icon on the bottom right of the desktop. Should I just use the recovery CD?

In response to the Messenger, the MSN server have undergone a protocol change. So basically, microsoft has screwed us yet again. Id say wait for the update, or use a web-based msn client for now. Also, you could use the highly regarded Pidgin application.
