    Hi,
I'm looking for an application to edit / play midi files with my AAO.
What software should I use? :?

    Thanks

For starters, try KMidi or Timidity++. Can't check right now to see if they're available in the Fedora Repository, but both programs are fairly common.

Timidity++ in particular is very useful to play MIDI files whenever the soundcard lacks MIDI support for Linux.

I've installed Timidity++ but when I try to play a midi file I cannot be able to heard any sounds. The application continue to reproduce the midi but no sounds were reploduced. If I try to play an Mp3 with VLC, I heard it.

Can you get timidity to output to a wav file (e.g., timidity -Ow ...) ? If you can, then I guess the problem is in the audio output. Or perhaps you need to fiddle with the timidity++ volume settings? Maybe also try `timidiy -Os' to use the ALSA driver rather than OSS?

Just of curiosity, I tried `sudo yum install timidity++' and it installed easily and works just fine. I am using a more-or-less stock Linpus machine.

I presume that the timidity++ distributed in the repository has some basic samples built in. In any event, I didn't find that I had to install anything else to make it play. That doesn't mean that it won't benefit from some more eleborate samples, of course.

The default installation includes a package called "PersonalCopy-Lite-soundfont". It is indeed quite basic.
